c.1925 Marks Bros Co Dandy Periscope In Original Box
Really neat double mirrored Dandy Periscope by Marks Bros. Co. Features loads of early full color chromolithography illustrations of 1920s play scenes. Even includes original box. Periscope is made from thick cardboard tube, 2¼" diameter, covered with 8 different illustrations. They're all set against a predominately black background. A band of prismatic shapes and colors circles the center of the tube and includes the toy and manufacturer name. The ends of the tube are sealed with tin litho disks. It has a 2" diameter black eyepiece on one end and a 1-3 8" viewer on the other. Both of these are heavy gauge tin litho which have been riveted to the tube. Inside the end of each tube is a mirror fixed at a 45° angle. The mirrors have become hazy and darkened around the edges, but despite these things it still works! The box is all-text. The toy and manufacturer name were printed repeatedly on all four main panels. In addition the endflaps also include the catalog number. Size: 17¼" Date Sold: Jan. 2010
