1948 Arnold, No.585 Clockwork Tank in Original Box
Rugged clockwork tin litho American tank by Arnold complete with original box. Includes correct and original cast iron, nickel plated Arnold key. This toy "exudes" quality. Less than 4" long, yet weighing ¼ pound it features heavy gauge tin plate construction, embossed louvers and hatch, moving cannon, silver painted steel bogey wheels, and chrome plated steel linked chain treads. Marked with tank corp insignias, Arnold logo, and A 585 (catalog number). Includes original Arnold embossed cast iron nickel plated key. The key is probably just as difficult to find as the tank! Original box features a different illustration on every panel. All show two helmeted children battling the tank. I particularly like the panel showing one kid tossing gasoline on the tank, while another throws a lit match. One illustration has a facsimile signature by the original artist. Box is marked "Made in U.S. Zone Germany". Size: 3¾". Sold: Jan. 2007
