c.1935 Prewar Japan, Popeye & Olive Oyl Lustreware Egg Cup
Unusual ceramic glazed Lustreware (not Lusterware) egg cup marked Japan. Features hand colored illustration of Popeye and Olive Oyl set against a (most obvious) Japanese background. Pearl-beige lustrous exterior with clear glazed white interior and underside. Japanese logo can be seen just above the word "Japan". The scene shows Olive fanning herself with a feather while strolling arm in arm with Popeye. Small flowers, evergreens, a nearby hill and a very Japanese looking tree can be seen among them.
