1910 Carette, Clockwork Chauffeured Limousine Touring Car
Magnificent pre-WWI lithographed tinplate clockwork "Chauffeured Limousine Touring Car" manufactured by Carette, Nuremberg, Germany. At 40 cm (15¾") long it was the largest automobile produced by the company. This example is complete with all original parts and paint. The motor works fine, but as with most toys of this vintage it's become sluggish with age. In terms of price and quality this was the second to the top-of-the-line deluxe version for Carette. The company trademark was hand enameled only on the deluxe model. None of the other versions including this one, or sizes were marked. The body is dark green with red trim around the windows, black roof and running boards, and yellow pin stripping. It was produced in 1910, but was included in Carette's 1911 catalog. Features are as follows: It's interesting that even back in 1910-11 Carette recognized the problem of the rubber tires developing a flat spot if left in the same position for several years. As a result additional tires sold separately were produced. The car was originally available through the Sears-Roebuck catalog for $2.98 (see advertisement below).
