c.1915 National Toy Co., Ragtime Rastus Phonograph Toy in Orig. Box

"Ragtime Rastus" manufactured by the National Toy Company, Boston, MA was advertised as the "dancing doll for disc talking machines". After nearly 100 years it's still a popular toy spawning several reproductions and various versions (dancers, boxers, etc.,). Fortunately this example is all original, complete, and in excellent+ condition.

Besides the jointed wooden doll it requires several parts to work correctly. Which is why finding a complete all original example with its original box is a rarity. It consists of 6 separate parts 1) the dancing figure, 2) metal wire rod, 3) metal/wood hub, 4) wooden pin which lays across the center of the hub, 5) wooden dancing platform, and 6) counter balance weight with metal rods. All of these parts are present.

The sturdy 2-piece cardboard box was covered with glossy green paper. Fine illustrations of the toy in action as well as multiple advertisements for its dancing abilities were applied to the cover and two box bottom ends. The original instructions were separately pasted to the underside of the cover. All of these are still in place and complete.

Size: Figure 5½ tall. Mechanism w/figure 8" tall.
