c.1939 Solido 31pc. Prewar Die Cast Artillery Set In Original Box
Incredible 31 piece, prewar die cast metal, artillery set No. C6 manufactured by Solido (France). Awesome mint condition toy has never been played with or removed from original backing card. Purchased from a collection in Maryland where it resided for many years. I don't know the scale, but the barrel in the top left corner is 3-5/8" (55mm) long. Includes howitzer, cannon, and mortar barrels, platforms (elevated, angled, raised, and rotating), wheels (both solid disk and spoke), gun carriages and cradles with screw-on nuts, washers, and bolts, wrenches, and shells. Most of the parts are a dark chocolate brown color. The shells, wrenches, axles and nuts are unpainted die cast metal. Each part was neatly tied to the insert with multiple windings of thin cotton cord. The only thing absent are two pieces of tape which was used to position the cannon in the top left corner. The cord is all original; none of it has been replaced. The wide flat box is a laminate consisting of an outer blue paper covering, a layer of red material, and then the cardboard itself. The original catalog number label "cannon C 6" is still attached to one of the side aprons on the box bottom. It still has its original red and silver foil company trademark sticker on the front cover. And lastly, the corners of both the cover and bottom have all of their original 90° right angle staples in place. Size: 16½" x 13" x 1½". Weight: almost 4 pounds May 2011
