1946 Acme Bell Helicopter In Original Box & Ideal F 90 Star Jet

1946 Acme Bell Helicopter In Original Box & Ideal F 90 Star Jet

Includes two early injection molded plastic toys. Both were in the same collection for many years.

The Thomas Mfg. Corp. (i.e., Thomas Toy), produced the Bell helicopter under the Acme name. It was the very first injection molded plastic toy helicopter ever made. The patent was filed in 1945 and granted in 1946. This example, complete with its original box, is only the second I've ever found. It has a simple mechanism which featured a propeller that revolved as it was pulled along. It's complete with original string.

The box for this toy was beautifully illustrated in a sort of modernistic design. It shows a brilliant orange copter above a stark blue and white shadowed city with a sunburst horizon. The Acme name and additional graphics of the copter were printed on the box aprons.

The Ideal Toy Co., introduced the first "all new" plastic toy jets in 1951. This F-90 Shooting Star Jet Fighter was one of the earliest. It was molded in several colors; this one is yellow with green wheels.

Size: Copter 4½"., Jet ½" fuselage, 5" wingspan.
