1958 Browning "Rounding Up The Herd" 600pc Puzzle with Box

1958 Browning

Whoever the original owner of this puzzle may have been, he/she knew of its beauty and rarity! Marked and underlined on the cover is "NOT TO BE LENT TO ANYONE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION". 53 years after it was given as a birthday present on November 30, 1958, you can still see how incredibly well cared for it was. Complete with every piece and in near mint condition... it is awesome!

Produced in Caldwell, NJ by the James Browning company, and sold under their "U-Nit" trade name every piece was cut by hand. The company produced only 400-500 puzzles annually. Most were purchased through F.A.O. Schwartz in New York City. As with most puzzles of the time it came packaged without the actual illustration. It was packed in a nondescript white textured box with a simple label on one end. The name of the puzzle was hand written onto the label.

It includes over 25 figural pieces (those with a specific figure shape). It has many more pieces cut into swirls and loops. Both the figural and swirly pieces are shown below.

Size: Approx. 3ft x 2ft.  Box: Approx. 9" x 5" x 5½".

Sold: Mar. 2011
