1927 Kilgore, 12 Cast Iron Bozo Cap Bombs in Original Box

1927 Kilgore, 12 Cast Iron Bozo Cap Bombs in Original Box

Extraordinary group of 12 cast iron Bozo cap bombs manufactured by Kilgore. All have never played with! They come complete with their original store display box and checkerboard insert. They all grade at least near mint. Four are in perfect mint condition.

The Bozo's were manufactured using a two-piece cast iron head riveted together through the center. The rivet was plated with shiny nickel alloy allowing one end to be used as the clown's nose.

The stemmed cap exploder was also nickel plated. It's used as the detonator, tongue, and neck. A single large "mammoth" style cap was used. It would've been placed in the mouth on top of the "tongue"; then "thrown". It's weighted so that the neck hits the ground first causing the detonator to push up against the roof of the mouth and explode the cap.

The pieces were cast with deep facial features and embossed "BOZO" on each hat. Each Bozo has a light tan enamel face (actually they're dipped then baked). The rear half is either red, green, or blue. There are six reds, three greens, and three blues.

The display box is marked "one dozen durable iron, assorted colors". The Kilgore company name and logo appears on all four box skirts as well as the cover top. An interlocking, five piece, checkerboard cardboard insert keeps the Bozo's from hitting each other.

Size: Toy 1¾" x 1" diameter. Each weighs 2oz. Box 5½" square.
