c.1930 John Poorman, Cast Iron Double Barrel Boot Jack

c.1930 John Poorman, Cast Iron Double Barrel Boot Jack

Early figural cast iron American Bull Dog brand folding bootjack w attractive japanned copper flash surface finish. Although reproductions of this cast iron boot jack gun can be found in abundance, the real deal is difficult to locate. This is one of the real ones. Originals can be identified by the quality of the casting, jappining, and mold mark numbers (SD-1L and SD-1R) on the inside surfaces.

Made to look like a cast iron pistol or cap gun, it spreads apart to reveal a boot spike in the center. The spike fits against the rear of the boot as it's being lifted.

The maker of this item is nearly impossible to identify. I wouldn't have been able to determine the manufacturer if I hadn't seen a mint in box example.
