c.1952 Marx Railroad Accessory Set in Original Box

There are two things about this unusual set which make it so attractive. The first is its incredible box graphics. Second is that it's never been used, it's complete, and the contents are in mint condition.

Made of all hard styrene plastic this is the perfect accessory set to create an authentic, early 1950's railroad crossing. All the pieces are set into a complex die cut insert. An additional piece of cardboard provides a separate compartment for the telegraph poles and additional signs. It also comes with approximately two dozen steel floor tacks (not shown). The tacks fit into the slots at the base of each assessory to hold them in place on your layout. Everything is plastic and none of the pieces are electrified.

Here's what's included:

  • Semaphore with ladder and movable flag - 6"
  • Railroad Crossing Sign with red plastic jewel "lights" - 6"
  • Lamp Post with bulb - 6"
  • Grade Crossing with movable arm, hanging lantern, and support rod - 8"
  • Two-way grade crossing with track slots - 8" x 7½"
  • 12 Telegraph poles - 7"
  • 18 High-way signs - 2½" (12 different signs, 6 duplicates).
  • Steel tacks (not shown)

The box features a beautiful illustration showing a "modern" railroad crossing. It's printed only in black, red, and yellow (now orange from age). A single car waits as a passing diesel locomotive pulling many cars makes a broad sweep. All of the different parts to the set were included in the drawing. Using alternating color schemes (black, red, and yellow) the side aprons were printed with the toy name in large capital letters. It still has its original $2.98 Christmas price sticker on one panel. The yellow (now orange) insert was die cut to accept all of the parts except the poles and duplicate signs. Originally a large single strip of scotch tape crossed over the highway sign stems to secure them. The tape was not inside the box. The box bottom is corrugated cardboard.

Size: Box 18" x 16" x 3".
