1926 Army vs. Navy, Grid-Craft Foot-Ball Game in Original Box

1926 Army vs. Navy, Grid-Craft Foot-Ball Game in Original Box

Advertised as "a real indoor foot-ball game" this huge game measures a whopping 30" x 22" when it's all laid out. It features an actual 13" x 5" black and white photograph of the November 27, 1926 Army vs. Navy football game on the cover. This particular Army Navy game was played at Soldier Field in Chicago and marked the stadium's formal dedication. It was the 29th annual confrontation between the two rivaling teams.

One look at its six pages of single-spaced typed instructions and its incredibly complicated playing board are more than enough reasons to explain why the game was never played. It was manufactured by Grid-Craft Corporation, Peoria, IL and was designed by A.J. Robertson (the "well known athletic director and coach from Bradley College").

It comes with eight, blue-dyed wooden playing pieces and a brown celluloid football with embossed strings. The football is attached to a nasty looking ½" needle which, as the game was played, would be pressed into the board. It also contains two miniature transparent glass dice; one clear and the other blue. The instructions come in a very old and browned envelope labeled "Grid Craft game instructions and playing pieces". The board comes in three folded, canvas hinged sections.

Both top and bottom sections of the box are included. All of the original aprons are in place.

Size: 22½" x 10½" x 1¼". Weight 3 pounds.
