1948 Marx, Mechanical Speed Racer in Original Box
Outstanding keywind tin litho mechanical racerwith lithographed driver complete with original box. Large 13" long vehicle designed with classic cigar shape with rounded front grille and tapered tail. Toy looks like it was never played with. Brilliant metallic red with "spiked" silver trim, silver cowl, and silver exhausts (six on each side) all highlighted with black raised embossing. Features rounded, red and silver checkerboard front grille. Large number "3" appears on both hood sides and rear quarter panels. Driver head was the same used by Marx for their "Jumpin' Jeep". Tires are double sided pressed metal discs with embossed treads, red hubs with black detailed centers. Vehicle uses an attached key with three step down gears which provide power to the rear axle. Includes original chassis cross member on the underside of the car. It's frequently missing. The original box is printed with simple text in light blue. The name of the toy, manufacturer name and address is included. The title "Mechanical Speed Racer" was used by Marx for at least a dozen different vehicles manufactured from the mid-1920's through the early 1950's.
