1938 Wyandotte, No. 2010 Mechanical Merry-Go-Round with Music in Original Box
Extraordinary steel and tin litho mechanical musical Merry-Go-Round manufactured by Wyandotte. Very scarce toy in unused near mint+ condition complete with original box. Brilliant toy uses a chrome plated push type spring motor. It features an ornate mosaic base, a green carousel platform, and orange and yellow rectangular center support with lithoed organ pipes. The canopy is lithoed in alternating yellow and orange stripes with a bulls-eye in the center. The underside of the canopy is lithoed light blue. On the rotating platform are four boys riding four white swans. In between the swans hang four steel monoplanes (one orange, one white, and two blue). As the toy speeds up, centrifugal force causes the planes to project out sideways. Simultaneous it makes a tinkling musical sound as it spins. It's a fantastic toy and works great! It's also interesting to note that by looking at the Wyandotte logo on the mosaic band surrounding the base, you can tell that it was attached upside down. The logo is upside down. The unusual thin walled gray cardboard box includes a detailed illustration of the exact toy on all four panels. A hand on the right side is shown pressing the activation lever while musical notes emit from the left side. The toy name, manufacturer name and motor were included as well. In addition the manufacturer address and catalog number were printed on both endflaps. The box has a rough texture which I haven't seen for any other Wyandotte toy. This is only the second time I've seen this toy. It's the first box I've ever seen for it. A variation of the toy with the boys riding horses was also produced, but I've never found it.
