1959 Meiko Shoji, Cadillac Cyclone Future Car in Original Box

1959 Meiko Shoji, Cadillac Cyclone Future Car in Original Box

Amazing tin litho space-age Cadillac Cyclone based an actual full scale vehicle presented at the 1959 New York Auto Show. Spectacular hybrid styling combined a jet propelled rocket with a Cadillac Coupe de Ville. The vehicle featured slide back doors with a transparent dome roof which opened simultaneously, and twin green headlight nosecones with built in radar. The photo of the actual car (below) was taken while it was on display at the Auto Show.

This toy representation of the Cyclone was manufactured by Meiko Shoji in Japan. This example is old store stock, complete with the original box and insert. It was never played with and only just recently removed from the box for the first time. It's powered with a friction drive motor and features embossed ladder door entries, embossed hood scoop and undercarriage, solid rubber tires, chrome plated grille, hubcaps, and rear bumper assembly. The canopy roof is stationary. "Made In Japan" and the manufacturers trademark appear on the right seat back.

The original box has a full size color illustration of the toy. "Future Car" is the name which appears on the box. Although the Cadillac Cyclone title wasn't used (probably for licensure reasons) the resemblance is undeniable.

Size: 9½" x 3".
