1939 Marx, The Lone Ranger Hi-Yo Silver Range Rider in O/B
Superb example of the classic Marx mechanical tin litho cowboy rocking toy featuring the Lone Ranger and his horse Silver complete with its original box. Eye-catching multicolored lithography features three dimensional horse and rider. Powered by spring motor with attached key. Rocker movement causes the overhead lariat to twirl and the Ranger's left arm to swing freely. The base was lithoed with recognized western themes including ropin' steers, guns, spurs, and saddle. The top of the platform was designed as a desert background. The Marx logo appears on the reverse side. The identical tin figures of Silver and the Lone Ranger were used for another Marx toy eight years earlier. That version had no rocker, but instead balanced on its hind legs and moved by vibration. Simply called "Hi-Yo Silver Lone Ranger", Marx used the surplus stock after WWII fitted on top of the newly designed rocker base you see below. This explains the 1938 copyright date found on the back side of the saddle blanket. The box is a plain printed text style package with four flaps on each end. Size: 11" long, 9½" tall, 2¼" wide.
