c.1935 Pre-War Japanese Bisque 12pc. Cake Circus Set in Original Box

c.1935 Pre-War Japanese Bisque 12pc. Cake Circus Set in Original Box

Unusual set of 12 hand painted bisque figures all centered around a circus theme. Intended to be used as cake decorations, but most likely with the advent of wax and plastic figures it probably made the use of a set like this obsolete.

Each piece is in unused mint condition and still thread tied to the original backing card. All are contained inside their original cardboard box covered with yellow Christmas prints (holly, angels, ornaments, Christmas trees, etc.). The box lid has an additional circus print fixed to the cover. There's no indication of the manufacturer. The only identification is the distributors name and "Made In Japan".

Each piece is embossed "Japan". It includes a standing clown, dog on pedestal, tiger on ramp, woman bareback rider, elephant on ball, ringmaster, giraffe on bridge pedestal, lion on twin bases, cat riding bicycle, monkey on pedestal, , horse on pedestal, and clown riding pig.

Size: Ranging from 1¼" to 2½". Box 5½" x 6¼" x ¾".
