c.1927 Champion, Cast Iron Mack Gas & Motor Oil Tank Truck
Champion produced a series of Mack cast iron trucks in different configurations (stake truck, dump truck, etc.). There were two sizes of each truck; 8¼" or 4¾". This example of their Gas and Motor Oil truck is the larger size and is tough to find in decent condition. It has approximately 95% of its original paint remaining and has had no touch-up (verified under black light) or repainting. The Mack series were manufactured with either white rubber tires, or nickel plated cast iron wheels. Typically, the nickel plated version shown below is much more difficult to find. "Champion Gas & Motor Oil" was embossed on both sides of the tank. The Champion name was also embossed into the underside of the vehicle just above the rear suspension. It was originally painted red throughout with no highlighting. Over time the red color has patinated to a beautiful dark cinnamon. The wheels retain almost all of their original plating and show virtually no wear. Size: 8¼" x 2¾" x 2¼". Sold: Feb. 2017
