c.1958 Marusan, Number 7 Rocket Racer In Original Box
Couldn't find a single reference for this classic ""stubby" racer featuring a large upright, centered Rocket tail fin. Marked only "Japan", I'm 99% sure it's a Marusan toy, but it's difficult to say for sure. Friction, tin litho toy grades excellent+ to near mint and comes with original box. Rocket tail fin racers were very popular during the late 1950s. This particular toy is primarily red with green upper panels, striped in white and loaded with litho details. It has its original separately tabbed helmeted driver's head and polished (partitioned) tin windshield frame. The fin itself is red, green, and white striped, and rounded at the edges and tip. The tires are solid black rubber with deep knobby treads and polished tin center hubs. Friction motor produces a grinding "roar" sound while working. The colorful box includes a panel-wide illustration of a blue, red and white striped Rocket Racer which very closely resembles the actual toy. Two other racers are shown in the background. The box bottom still has its original .29¢ Kresge price sticker. Size: 6½" Date Sold: Feb. 2011
