1954 Marx, DareDevil Motor Drome in Original Box
"An unusual and exciting toy with daredevil racing car that speeds around inside of the bowl. At peak speed runs along lip of bowl but never spills out." Sears Christmas Catalog 1954 This was the original description as it appeared in the 1954 Sears Christmas catalog to characterize the Marx Daredevil Motordrome. Selling for $1.89, it was available for only year. The toy includes a large blue plastic bowl riveted to a tin litho metal base. It still has its original cardboard liner fixed to the underside of the base. A tin litho clockwork racer has large rubber tires in back and black plastic tires in front speeds around the inside of the bowl. It comes complete with its two original boxes. One box held the entire toy and a smaller separate box was for the racer. The clockwork motor does work well, but I didn't want to run it to avoid scratching either the bowl or the car. Size: Bowl 9½" diameter base. 7½" diameter bowl at the lip. Racer 4". Sold: Mar. 2009
