1948 Unique Art Co. "Li'l Abner & Band" in Original Box

1948 Unique Art Co.

The January, 1946 issue of Playthings magazine advertised the Unique Art Mfg. Co., "Li'l Abner And His Dogpatch Band" as the first post-WWII metal wind-up toy. Considered a classic tin wind-up toy, most collectors are familiar with the Dogpatch Band's multiple actions, comic characters, and awesome lithography. It's identical in concept to at least half a dozen other American toys produced by Marx, Strauss, and Unique Art, as well as several Japanese toys.

Superb example conservatively graded excellent++  to near mint condition; it comes complete with its original box. Best of all it works great!

The box features a large illustration of Li'l Abner on the front and rear panels along with the manufacturer's name and address. The sides of the box show the four band characters. The top and bottom endflaps include the toy name, manufacturer name, address, and logo, plus the Unique Toy slogan and patent. It has both of its original blank inner flaps.
