1950 Battery Operated Baltimore & Ohio Train Set in Original Box
Beautiful battery operated tin litho Baltimore and Ohio, Model Train Set in original box. Old store stock in the original box. Outstanding excellent++ to near mint in box toy! Set consists of three highly detailed cars. Each was lithoed in matching striped layers of gold, blue, and black. Each has double axle metal wheels (eight total) with black embossed carriages. Couplers are simple hook and eyelet. Each is marked with Baltimore and Ohio logo on both sides. In addition the Japanese manufacturer's trademark was lithoed on the side, towards the rear of each car. Resembling the Greek letter alpha inside a circle I could find no reference for it. Not sure what gauge the set would be. B & O Diesel Locomotive (8") - Classic diesel design with eight die-cut windows on each side plus the two engineer windows. Embossed doors. Roof has two raised ventilators. Three black checkerboard exhausts lithoed on both sides, plus two chromed ladders. Front corners marked with "88" and B & O logo. Features single, centered headlamp which lights continuously. Entire roof section lifts up to insert two D-cell batteries. Two way switch provides reverse or forward movement. Rear coupler only. Batteries were inserted. All functions work beautifully! B & O Passenger Car (7") - Single embossed door on each side with 11 die cut windows and front and rear couplers. B & O Streamlined Passenger Car 7¾" - Passenger car featuring classic round tail section. Single embossed door on each side with 11 die cut windows, plus two additional windows in the curved tail. Front coupler only. Track (polished tin) - Double rail with six 15" curves and four 14" straights (approx. 12ft. total length). Each has four ties. Each tie embossed with "Made in Japan". The original box (17" x 10" x 2") includes a cover section with applied color print showing an elongated Baltimore and Ohio train speeding zig-zag through the mountains with a lake and evergreen trees on either side. The underside of the cover has an applied schematic direction showing correct placement of the batteries. The bottom box section is reinforced with doubled cardboard. It has all of its original inserts including a flat rectangular inner cover. Tissue paper covering on the passenger cars is original. Tissue paper on the locomotive was replaced (removed by original owner), but is from the same vintage, just slightly whiter because it wasn't exposed to air. Original Japanese export sticker still attached to box apron. Size: noted above. Sold: Jan. 2008
