1936 Marx, #550 City Coal Company Mack Dump Truck in Original Box
Outstanding example of one of the largest Mack style lithographed tinplate dump trucks manufactured by Marx. Over a foot long this beautiful toy has a spring driven mechanical motor, a manually raised dump bed, a three position front axle, separate driver, and double sided disk metal wheels. It comes complete with its extraordinarily uncommon original box. Also known as the City Coal Company truck #550 it was lithographed in an unusual combination of colors. The cab, fenders, running boards, and chassis are silver, outlined in dark blue with a single blue star on the roof. The hood and dump bed exterior are turquoise blue with yellow-green details (Marx logo on front grille, hood louvers, firewall, text and rivet heads on dump bed). The front bumper (which is often missing) is black. The wheels have black rims with bright green centers, The interior of the dump bed is dark green. The underside of the chassis is black. It looks streaky, but this is the way it was applied at the factory. The generic box printed in green and red was used to package several versions of the large tin litho Mack dump truck. It has two illustrations of a Mack dump truck in action. The cab roof is elongated with a flat, split front windshield with spoke wheels and also shows a passenger with the driver. This is the correct box for this toy. Size: 12¾" x 5" wide x 4¾" tall. Sold: Jun. 2006
