1926 Ronson, Starlight Magic Whirling Star Shower in Original Box
Very early tin litho, steel, and wood mechanical sparking toy manufactured by Ronson. Called the "Starlight" it's in beautiful working condition and throws out lots of sparks. The toy comes complete with its fabulous original box. Before I found this toy I was unaware that Ronson had ever manufactured a toy. The idea of two rotating flints scraping against a rough stationary surface to create sparks was repeated later in the century by large toy companies like Chein and Marx. Ronson's version is more archaic in function, but actually has a more elegant appearance. It's also easier to use and is much sturdier. It has no plastic components and uses a solid wooden (stained green) handle. The two red shower "windows" are thick celluloid. The box was beautifully illustrated with a fine line illustration of the sparkling Starlight. It has a wonderful 1920's "look" to it. Several patent number are sited on the endflaps. The side panels advertise that it's "brilliant by night" and "fascinating by day". Size: 6". Sold: Mar. 2007
