1946 Occupied Japan New York Yankees Mechanical Baseball Catcher in Original Box
Marked only "Made in Occupied Japan" this hand painted, clockwork, celluloid and tin baseball catcher clearly has a New York Yankees emblem on its left shoulder (Yogi Berra?). The toy is complete with its hand painted original matching key and original box. Wind up his clockwork motor and he moves forward while randomly turning right or left. The arms swing freely and are attached with the original cord. Typically they hang down from his side. I posed them up for the photo's so they'd look more natural. The figure and base are all celluloid. Only the flat underside of the base is tin and was painted green. Tough to find the original matching green painted key. From the looks of him I don't think he was ever played with. The box is a plain, thin wall heavy paper stock. It's stamped "Made in Occupied Japan" on one of the main panels without any other text. Size: 5½" tall. Sold: Mar. 2005
