c.1934 Kuramochi, Mary and Her Little Lamb in Original Box
Outstanding pre-war Japan, blown celluloid figural Mary on its original hand painted tin platform with mechanical motor. Complete with separately blown celluloid lamb with movable nodding head. The lamb comes on its own hand painted base with tin wheels. Although tie knotted in the center it comes with it's original silk string. Best of all it's complete with its original box with print cover. The toy features Kuramochi's trademarked diamond enclosed "C.K" embossed in raised lettering on the back of Mary's neck. She has beautifully detailed, hand painted features, and a realistic movable right arm. Mary and Her Lamb were produced in two different sizes. This example is the larger of the two. The box is a simple stapled corner, early cardboard box with removable cover. A full color illustration applied to the cover shows Mary and her lamb. Registered countries, the company trademark, and their Tokyo location are all indicated. Before the war, the manufacturer of this toy, Kuramochi was one of the largest producers of celluloid products. Many of their products were exported. Size: Mary 6½". Lamb 3".
