c.1906 Hubley, Cast Iron Horse Drawn Clown Chariot
Unusual early cast iron Horse Drawn Clown Chariot by Hubley. Features ornately decorated red painted chariot and harness with gold painted scrollwork and rail edges. Wheels are bright yellow with eight spokes. The "Romanesque" style bulges in the center of each spoke gives the appearance of "pear -shapes" spaces between them. Appaloosa colored trotting horse is white with black spots and red details. It "runs" using its original single Hubley wheel. The Brownie style clown wears yellow trousers, blue coat, and red pointed cap which resembles a Hershey's Kiss. The clowns face and hands are painted white with red details. He is removable and original to the toy. The reins are replacements. The inside wall on both sides of the chariot are embossed with "147". The underside of the chariot has an old sticker which has darkened and is unreadable. The scalloped edges indicate that it's not a Hubley sticker. Probably an old auction label. Size: 8".
