c.1927 Distler, Gas Station Set Penny Toy with Illustrated Box
Early pre-war tin litho Gasoline Station and Saloon Sedan penny toy set by Distler. Remarkable excellent+ to near mint condition complete with original illustrated box cover. Appears to have never been used. Unusual two-piece tin litho penny toy set manufactured by Distler, Nuremberg, Germany. Includes a lithographed window & brick gasoline station with drive-thru roof extension and single manual style pump mounted onto a beveled base. The two-tone saloon automobile has seven windows, engine louvers, running boards, grille, and 4-spoke single disc wheels. Marx produced a nearly identical "Service Station" in 1929, but it was twice the size. Distler's late 1920's style globe trademark and the No.594 catalog number are lithoed onto the rear of the car. It's also marked "Made In Germany". Includes the original pressed cardboard box cover with with all four 90º angle corner staples. Features a full panel color print illustration which closely duplicates the actual toy. It shows additional vehicles (2 motorcycles and chauffeured limousine) and people. The two oil wagons on the right side of the station are marked "Shell Motor Oils". The box bottom is a professional reproduction. Size: Station 2½" (70mm) x 4" (100mm) x 2" (55mm), Auto 2½" (70mm).
