c.1875 Merriam Mfg. Co., American Tin "Express Wagon"
Magnificent large scale hand painted stamped tin "Express Wagon" attributed to Merriam Mfg. Company, Durham, CT. Superbly crafted tin toy features a large open-bed buckboard style wagon finished in dark green with ocher yellow interior. "Express" is stenciled on each side and surrounded with black and gold decoration. The wagon is mounted onto narrow spoke cast iron wheels with cast iron axles. The wagon is drawn by two white horses with black and red accents. Both run on their original mini cast iron wheels. They are separated from the wagon by removing a cross-pin just below the front corner edge. Size: 24".
