1950 Marx, Mechanical Speed Racer #1 in Original Box
Outstanding keywind tin litho mechanical racing vehicle with lithographed driver and complete with original box. Classic cigar shape with rounded front grille and tapered tail. Bright yellow racer with black lightning bolts and exhausts lithoed on both sides. Raised cowl beautifully designed in yellow and black checkerboard with red header. Features puffy balloon black tires with embossed treads and red bull's-eye centers. Treads are also red lithoed. Identical driver head was also used by Marx for their "Jumpin' Jeep". Uses an attached key with three step down gears which provide power to the rear axle. Includes original clicker plate on the underside between the two front wheels. It's frequently missing (and also frequently not indicated when it is missing). It generates a clicking motor sound as the racer moves. The original box is printed with black illustrations on a white background and features two detailed drawings of the racer. One from the side shows the driver waving as he passes the checkered flag. The other shows an overhead illustration drawn in perspective and includes (of course) the all important "speed lines". Size: 6¼". Sold: Jun. 2006
