c.1930 Marx, Trans-Atlantic Zeppelin in Original Box
Early Marx mechanical wind-up "flying" zeppelin complete with original box. All tin plate construction with silver painted body and plated gondola, rudders and propeller. Octagonal ribbed body with triple overlapping tabs provides for strong lightweight toy ideal for manual "hand flying". Despite signs of wear, body halves are tight and securely in place. Attached key protrudes from the bottom of the gondola. Wind-up mechanism works great! Beautifully illustrated box shows two zeppelins marked "Mechanical Zepp" flying high above the tree tops. The ocean and several large ships can be seen far off in the distance. The side panels include some of the most complicated instructions I've seen for a Marx toy. That's probably the reason for why the kid looks so happily confused (see below). Size: 10". Sold: Apr. 2005
