c.1939 Chein, No.145 Mechanical Turtle (Green) in Original Box
Earliest and most scarce variation of Chein's popular tin litho Mechanical Turtle is this version in which the turtle is colored in shades of green. Beautiful example includes original native rider holding original string reins. Comes complete with original illustrated box. Beautifully embossed multicolored tin litho with working clockwork motor. Although I've seen this toy many times it's the first early green version I've found. Original box has simple portrait line illustration of the toy in working action on two panels. Remaining panels are text. Box has all original side and bottom flaps, however the two top flaps were torn off. They have been replaced with reproduction flaps. Size: 8" long and 4" tall.
