c.1950's Linemar, Walt Disney Mechanical Waddling Donald Duck in Original Box
Scarce mechanical wind-up tin litho and synthetic flocculent walking Donald Duck toy from Linemar. Complete with original box and he works great! Unusual Linemar toy has stationary arms and legs positioned so that it appears Donald is taking a step. Three wheels on Donald's underside provide the movement. Pinsky's reference book on Marx Toys, Volume III indicates that Donald's arms move. This is not the case because they're permanently fixed to his body. In addition, Donald's huge spring mounted head bounces side to side, back and forth, as he waddles forward. The reference also indicates "???" as the value because there was no known recorded sale. The unavailability of a reference example was the reason for noting that the arms moved. Donald's beak, eyes, hands, legs, feet, and underside are all tin litho. The head, cap, neck, body, and jacket are synthetic flocculent. His bow tie is felt. The underside has the Linemar logo. The original box has a colorful Donald illustrated with movement lines to show that he waddles. The cover drawing is repeated on two of the side flaps. A portrait of Donald's head looking upwards appears on the other two panels. Size: 5½" tall and 4¼" long. Sold: Dec. 2005
