c.1910 Buster Brown & Tige, Good Luck Porcelain Tea Cup

c.1910 Buster Brown & Tige, Good Luck Porcelain Tea Cup

Unusual Buster Brown character piece in fantastic near mint to mint condition. Appears unused. Ornate porcelain tea cup with scalloped edges and scrolled handle. Features an early full color illustration of Buster Brown (with logo) serving steaming hot water to an eagerly awaiting Tige ('da pooch).

Around the lip of the cup are three groups of gold painted Good Luck shamrocks (two in front and one in back). Gold decoration was also painted onto the handle. Pressings of stemmed flowers and other scrollwork can be seen in the porcelain itself.

The top of the cup is divided with a separate holed compartment to hold the raw tea leaves. Steaming water would be poured into the opposite side of the cup to the level that it would flow up through the holes and saturate the leaves. Definitely manufactured before the invention of mass produced throw away tea bags. Only identifying mark is the number "460" which is embossed into the underside base.

You can tell from its superb condition that it was probably displayed as a souvenir and never used.

Size: 2¼" height, 3-3/8" diameter.
