c.1936 Marx, Kaufmann's Private Label Delivery Truck
Any example of a 1930's Marx pressed steel delivery (panel style) truck is difficult to find. Even more scarce were self-propelled pressed steel vehicles; in this case a flywheel inertia driven motor. And most difficult of all is locating a proprietary company labeled truck from the same time period which is self propelled and pressed steel. This small truck has all those things. It features the proprietary name "Kaufmann's Fifth Avenue Pittsburgh" on both of the enclosed paneled sides. Kaufmann's was a huge department store started in 1871. It was only recently acquired by Macy's. At the same time the Kaufmann's name was dropped. The truck is all pressed steel with polished headlight and grille assembly. It's two tone with yellow body and black running boards/fenders/chassis (which make up a single part). It has original stationary tail gate still in place. The wheels are all black painted pressed wood. The flywheel mechanism and gears are complete and intact. Size: 5½". Date Sold: May, 2008
