c.1915 Kenton, Art Nouveau "Madam" Cast Iron Ashtray

c.1915 Kenton, Art Nouveau

Elegant "Fashionable Madam" Art Nouveau style cast iron ashtray manufactured by The Kenton Hardware Company. Created during one of Kenton's most productive periods it was a promotional item featuring a noble, yet fashionable woman with long outstretched gown. The "folds" were cleverly used to extinguish the cigar, or cigarette.

Left side is embossed with raised letters reading "Compliments of The Kenton Hardware Co.". Right side reads "Iron, Toys". It was produced in both polished cast iron and nickel plated versions. This one is nickel plated. It weighs slightly over one pound. It's in ultra-high relief measuring slightly over 1" in depth.

Charles M. Jacobs book on "Kenton Cast Iron Toys", Schiffer Publishing, 1996, provided the only reference I could find.
