1920 Strauss, Mechanical Tip Top Porter
Classic mechanical tin litho wind-up Tip Top Porter manufactured by Ferdinand Strauss, Inc. I bought this toy some time ago along with a rare boxed version. Wind 'er up and the Porter walks forward, alternating one leg in front of the other while he inches the cart ahead. That's what it's supposed to do. Only this guy has a small problem. The teeth have broken on a small gear and it must be replaced to work (see photo's below). It probably hasn't worked in a while which accounts for its fairly nice condition. He's also missing his caps visor. Great pressed tin details, good overall paint and a fairly decent Strauss logo. Size: 6¼" long x 5½" tall. Sold: Dec. 2006
