1938 Holgate Toys, No.1055 Fairyland Queen in Original Box
Incredible unused example of the Fairyland Queen manufactured by Holgate Toys. Overall in near mint condition it comes complete with its original box and original photo insert. Holgate started producing their line of quality wooden toys in 1929. The Fairyland Queen was one of their most well loved products created in 1934 and lasting until the early 1960’s. A combination wood and plastic version continued into the early 1970’s. In terms of this toy, its “regal†introduction started in 1938 and lasted for only two years. A more cartoonish-looking version with moving arms replaced it in 1940. Designed for “ages 3-6†it combines classic stacking colored rings with the “world of folkloreâ€. It consists of eight rings topped with a queenly pearl colored ermine wrap, a separate collar, and threaded head with gold colored crown. As evidence of its infrequent use part of the original Holgate sticker still clings to the topside of the largest ring. The all-text box has a hinged lid and is reinforced with metal corners. Both inner flaps are still in place. The 3½†paper insert includes a black and white photo of the toy and advertises it’s inherent attraction for play and learning. It’s suggested 1938 retail price was $2. I found a reference in an original Holgate sales catalog. Size: 10½â€. Sold: May, 2015
