c.1926 Buffalo Toy Tool Junior Speeder In Original Box
Buffalo Toy & Tool is one of those neat mechanical tin litho toy producing companies from the 1920s and 30s in which almost nothing is known. Joe and Sharon Freed's superb book on American Transportation Toys probably has the most information, but it was published 14 years ago. Like many Buffalo toys the Jr. Speeder is powered by a patented gravity driven mechanical "motor". Check out the first photo and look for the small tab at the top of the blue canopy. Pulling this tab reveals that the rest of the flat rod is twisted. It's connected by a spring to the bottom of the toy. The rod is pulled down through a pair of metal "gates" located on the top of the canopy. This causes the rod to rotate which in turn turns the canopy. Just thought you'd like to know. Anyway, it's a neat toy, all tin litho, complete and all original. It also comes with its scarce original box. The toy works great! Pull up on the metal rod and it'll spin for about 15-20 seconds. The box was printed with an accurate illustration of the toy on every main panel. Size: 5½" Date Sold: Oct. 2009
