c.1960 Daiya (Terai), Citroen 2CV in Original Box
Extraordinary mint in box model of the popular French Citroen 2CV (a.k.a. Duck) sedan. Two tone maroon and tan, friction drive tin litho manufactured by Daiya (Terai Toys), Japan. Comes complete with phenomenal original box in excellent+ to near mint condition. Probably the finest example of both the toy and box I've seen. The auto was manufactured for over 40 years at less than half the cost of a Volkswagen and got over 50 mpg, however very few were imported into the U.S. The style of the headlamps, grille and windows represents late 1950's to early 1960's production. The toy features authentic embossed details such as doors, handles, raised fenders, rear covered wheel wells, striated front hood with louvers, oval roof with contoured side windows, detailed interior with front and rear bench seats, dashboard gauges, red plastic steering wheel, protruding bug-eye headlamps, blue tinted celluloid windshield, French license plates, and solid rubber tires with metal hubs. Chrome plated components include realistic front grille with authentic logo, headlights, front and rear bumpers, and windshield frame. Daiya also included a "clack-clack" sound made by rotation of the front wheels and shock absorber spring cushioned rear wheels. The black, single plate chassis embossed was CITROEN 2CV. The box has a terrific illustration of the 2CV on the cover. A street front Parisian cafe and the first stage of the Eiffel Tower are shown in the background. Size: 8¼". Sold: Oct. 2007
