1958 Tootsietoys Sales Sample, No.1319 Airplane Assortment Set in Orig. Box
This is an original salesman's sample of 12 (6 different models) olive drab U.S. Army Air Corps. military aircraft made by Tootsietoys still on their original backing card. They've never been removed from their original box. All are in mint unused condition. A side panel from the cover identifies it as "1 Doz. No. 1319 Airplane Asst.". This was not, by itself, issued as a production level set. They were assembled, painted and carded only as a sales sample. The set includes 1)*F-86 Sabre Army Jet, 2) Cutlass Army Jet, 3) *Beechcraft Bonanza Army Plane, 4) Skyray Army Jet, 5) *Panther Army Jet, and 6) Starfire Jet (see identification below). Of the six different models three of them were only available in various 1958 Army Combat Sets and not sold individually. Although titled Airplane Asst. five are jets and only one is an airplane; the Beechraft Bonanza. Both have their original silver painted propeller complete and intact. They're all one-piece, die cast metal with rubber tires. Each has two U.S. Army Air Corps military insignia's, one on each wing. The wingspans range from approximately 3" to 4". The 12 are set securely into die cut holes in the backing card. The card is pale yellow (although it may have been white) with a decal of the Tootsietoy name in capitalized red lettering at the top. The card was factory stapled to the box bottom and is not removable. The box cover is intact, however all four side panels have broken off. Nearly all of the panels are missing EXCEPT the most important piece.... that which identifies the set! Size: Wingspans from approx. 3" to 4". Box 13" x 13" x 1½". *Sold only in Army Combat Sets.
