c.1960 Asahi Toy, Cunningham Dream Car In Original Box
Fabulous tin litho friction drive Cunningham "Dream Car" convertible manufactured by Asahi Toy, Japan complete with original box. It's in spectacular near mint+ to mint condition with complimentary high grade near mint box. The actual vehicle was produced from 1951-55. Wonderful tin litho automobile with embossed cherry red body with white, solid plate embossed chassis. Features its famous wide-mouth chrome plated grille and headlight assembly which wraps above, below, and around the sides of the vehicle. Additional plated components includes wrap around chrome rear bumper with painted green tail lights, chrome plated door handles, and elongated hood scoop. The windshield frame is polished tin with celluloid "glass". Wheels have solid rubber tires with white lithoed metal hubs. Interior has a single bench seat, flooring and dashboard details; all tin lithoed. Numerically lithoed, raised, trunk mounted license plate with "Made In Japan" was separately tabbed to the body. The car is not marked with the manufacturer's logo which appears only on the box. Friction drive motor powers the front wheels and works great! Original box features a terrific panel wide sea shore illustration from an overhead perspective. "Dream Car" written in cloudy text was printed above the car. The manufacturer's name was printed in the lower right corner. The riding couple shows the woman driving and the man as the passenger. Side panels show two simpler color drawings of the vehicle simultaneously from two perspectives; right side and front. The endflaps were printed as "Friction Operated Dream Car" in bright red script. Both endflaps still have it's original 79 cents price stamped in blue ink. Size: 7½" Sold: Apr. 2008
