1965 Tonka, Western Auto Pick-Up Truck with Original Look Book
Gorgeous near mint pressed steel Western Auto private label pick-up truck manufactured by Tonka. Originally issued in 1963 without side windows, it was re-released in 1965 with a completely enclosed window interior. I also couldn't find any reference to this particular "Look Book" in-box advertisement which features the second version of this truck on the first page (if you look closely it shows the cab windows on the passenger door). This truck was a recent attic find and has never been played with. It was originally purchased by an elderly Indiana couple for their grandchildren to play with while visiting. Like so many other toys from this find it was immediately stored in the couple's attic and forgotten. The Look Book was laying inside the pick-up bed. In fact the couple purchased it on sale, because even when new it it was not boxed. In addition the tail-gate has been lowered only once....and that was by the auction company that I purchased it from. The truck is a deep carmine-red and brilliant white roof. It has solid, heavy tread whitewall tires with raised, chrome plated metal hubs. The front bumper assembly is also chrome plated. The front head lights are plastic. The clear plastic windshield covers the front, sides, and rear cab windows. Both of the Western Auto door decals are original and 100% complete. The Look Book advertises 16 Tonka vehicles includes this second version of the Western Auto pick-up truck. Interestingly it doesn't have a Tonka logo printed on it. Only Bethlehem steel. Size: 12¾".
