c.1949 Marx Mechanical Woody Station Wagon In Original Box
Tough to find tin litho wind-up Mechanical "Woody" Station Wagon by Marx. Conservatively grades excellent+ to near mint. It works great and comes complete with its original box. A smaller 7" version is much easier to find. Beautifully lithographed as a 2-door turquoise wagon with silver hood divider, wood grain side panels and trunk with white chassis. Structurally, the physical form of this car was used by Marx to produce at least 10 other vehicles. Interior lithoed with the post-war Nuclear family (Father, Mother, Sister, Brother, and two dogs) on their way to a camping vacation. Rear window ledge is loaded with boxes of camping goodies plus the two pups. Car is wound with attached key. Three tires are black painted wood. The 4th is rubber and provides "road grab". Blue and white box was printed with a nearly panel wide, ¾ perspective illustration of the wagon and family out for a country ride. Front and rear panels show a portrait of the "woody" complete with father, sister, and dog. Size: 11". Date Sold: Dec. 2009
