c.1960 Asahi Toy, Cunningham Dream Car in Original Box
Fabulous tin litho friction drive Cunningham "Dream Car" convertible manufactured by Asahi Toy, Japan complete with original box. At 9" in length it was the longest Cunningham sports car toy made in Japan. It's also in spectacular near mint condition. The actual vehicle was produced from 1951-55. Wonderful tin litho automobile with embossed cherry red body with white, solid plate embossed chassis. Features its famous wide-mouth chrome plated grille and headlight assembly which wraps above, below, and around the sides of the vehicle. Also includes wrap around chrome rear bumper with painted red taillights, chrome plated side vents, door handles elongated hood scoop, and hub caps. The windshield frame is polished tin. Interior has a single bench seat, flooring and dashboard details; all tin lithoed. Numerically lithoed, raised, trunk mounted license plate with "Made In Japan" was separately tabbed to the body. Also includes original celluloid windshield and all four whitewall, solid rubber tires. Friction drive motor powers the front wheels and works great! Original box features a simple color illustration of the convertible on both sides. "Friction" and "Dream Car" were printed above and below along with Asahi company logo. The same text was repeated on the endflaps, but without the logo. Size: 9". Sold: Mar. 2007
